From: Richard Canfield <canfield> Subject: MMOC002 Target

This is a call for observations guided by Max Millennium Observing Plan 002 "Eruptive Flares Associated with Sigmoids during WSM3" (http://solar.physics.montana.edu/max_millennium/ops/op002/op002.html) The backward-S sigmoid in AR8668 has been chosen as the target of WSM3. This region has already produced three known eruptive events. Please concentrate your observations on this region, if possible. In the best case, this region will remain the Max Millennium target for more than a week, until it passes over the West limb.

Coordinates of AR 8668 were approximately N21 E28 at 2400 UT on 17-Aug-99. For those who prefer to use coordinates in arc seconds relative to disk center, Sarah Gibson has used a Yohkoh image from 1158 UT 17-Aug-99 to project the coordinates of AR 8668 for 1200 UT 18-Aug-99 and 1200 UT 19-Aug-99. Her image with crosses at the projected center of the sigmoids at these two times can be found at http://www.damtp.cam.ac.uk/user/sg273/WSM3/sfd9908171158.gif Sarah's projections give the following coordinates: 1200 UT August 18: x = -380", y = 260" 1200 UT August 19: x = -195", y = 260"
