Subject: MM#009 Default HESSI Target

Dear HESSI collaborators,

Although NOAA 9455 still offers the best chances for activity for today and tomorrow (18 & 19 May), the region will have rotated off the disk by Sunday. We have therefore decided to switch targets to NOAA 9461.

NOAA 9461 is a large beta-gamma region which is on its 3rd transit and produced the ~X20 on 2-Apr-2001. In previous passes, the region was numbered 9393 (25 Mar) and 9433 (21 Apr). The region is composed of an asymmetric leader spot and shows significant mixing in it interior together with a bright set of arch-filaments visible in H-alpha. C-class events expected with a chance for M-class activity.

The position of NOAA 9461 on 18-Apr-2001 16:00 is:

N18 E40, ( solar_x = -579", solar_y = 319" )

Regards,

Peter Gallagher and Bill Marquette, BBSO/NJIT.
