Subject: MM#009 HESSI Default Target

Dear HESSI Collaborators,

NOAA 9591 (S20W50) continues in decay phase. The large delta continues to show signs of dividing into two separate sunspots, but an isolated major flare is still possible especially if significant flux emergence occurs nearby or if the large filament located in the trailing portion becomes active and erupts. NOAA 9601 (N14E21) developed a delta configuration since the last message and the two "stacked" regions (9600/9601) are highly magnetically complex within the leading and intermediate portions. Both 9591 and 9601 are capable of producing an M-class event, but since 9601 has developed an increase in magnetic complexity, we will switch targets from 9591 to 9601 today.

The position of NOAA 9601 on September 1 at 18:00 UT: N14E21 (Solar_X = -330", Solar_Y = 120")
