Subject: Sigmoid

Please observe the sigmoidal active region   NOAA AR: 9684 Heliographic coordinates: N5W28 epoch 5-NOV-01 Angular coordinates: [453, 28] epoch 5-NOV-01

following MM OP#011 [Eruptive Flares Associated with Sigmoids (TOO)] & SOHO/TRACE JOP106 [Sigmoidal active region study] until further notice. This target supersedes the target identified by the MM_CO in the previous MMmotd message. We will send out a daily reminder message of this target until it is no longer appopriate for observation, at which time we will cancel this Target of Opportunity (TOO) campaign.   The following URLs may be helpful:   http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sigmoid.gif (location of sigmoid) http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/http/last_sxt/ (full-disk SXT movies) http://www.lmsal.com/SXT/movies/lastsfd.html (partial-frame movies)

Region 9684 does not look extremely sigmoidal now, partly because it retains some of the arcade from the X1 flare.   Good observing!   SXT_CO
