Aurora Forecast for Friday, March 11, 2011

  MODERATE

Name of forecaster: Charles Deehr

Time of prediction: 3/8/2011 9:45:00 AM*

Forecast: Auroral activity will be moderate. Weather permitting, moderate displays will be visible overhead from Barrow to as far south as Talkeetna and visible low on the horizon as far south as Bethel, Soldotna and southeast Alaska.
Additional Forecaster comments: There were two "M-class" events on the sun on the 7th of March. We estimate that the effects of these events will reach Earth on the 9th and 10th of March. This should produce magnetic activity leading to Kp=4. This corresponds to our auroral index = 4. Check the forecast page maps appropriate to your area to see if the aurora would be visible to you. Then watch the short term forecast to know when to go out and look for the aurora.
