Subject: MM#003 Major Flare Watch" -
Date: Thu, 4 Dec 2014 14:30:02 -0800
Dear RHESSI Collaborators,
Solar activity is at a moderate level. The target region,
NOAA 12222 is the source of an ongoing major event;
a M6.1 flare on 4-Dec-2014 at 18:05. The region was
also the source of C- and M-class events, since the
previous message. The elongated mixed polarity
structure mentioned yesterday has fragmented, and
some of the rapidly moving component spots have
combined with the large positive leading spot, forming
a large mixed polarity structure (with the smaller
negative spots joined at the trailing edge). Given the
significant activity released so far and the ongoing
rapid evolution, a Major Flare Watch is now in effect.
Further M-class events are likely, with a significant chance for a >M5 flare.
The position of NOAA 12222 on 4-Dec-2014 at 20:35 UT is:
S20W34 ( 513", -339" )
