Dear Collaborators,
Solar activity is at a moderate level. Target region NOAA 13165 has been designated as a magnetically less-complex region since the last message (now a beta/D-type sunspot group) but this will be influenced by foreshortening effects due to its proximity to the South West limb. This region continued to be the most flare- productive region with being the source of eleven C-class events, including the largest flare in the period (a C9.1 on 16-Dec-2022 at 19:02 UT). The MM#003 Major Flare Watch will remain in effect for what will probably be a final 24 hours until NOAA 13165 has rotated completely out of view. High C-class flares are probable in the following 24-hour period, with a small chance for another >= M5 flare. The position of NOAA 13165 on 17-Dec-2022 at 18:00 UT is: S22W85 , ( 900", -363" ) See http://www.SolarMonitor.org for images and http://solar.physics.montana.edu/max_millennium/ops/observing.shtml for a description of the current Max Millennium Observing Plan.
