Dear Collaborators, The new target region near the southeast limb has now been designated as NOAA 13182 and was the source of an X1.2 flare at 00:43 UT today. As such we are implementing a Major Flare Watch campaign at this time. The region is currently classified as a simple beta/D-type region but may show signs of complexity as it rotates on to the disk. Increased chance of additional >M5 flaring over the next 24-48 hours. The position of NOAA 13182 on 6-Jan-2023 at 04:30 UT is: S17E69, ( -872", -264" ) See http://www.SolarMonitor.org for images and http://solar.physics.montana.edu/max_millennium/ops/observing.shtml for a description of the current Max Millennium Observing Plan.
