20230105 Week Rotation Today Rotation Week 20230107

Dear Collaborators,
The new target region near the southeast limb has now been designated as NOAA 13182 and was the source of an X1.2 flare at 00:43 UT today. As such we are implementing a Major Flare Watch campaign at this time. The region is currently classified as a simple beta/D-type region but may show signs of complexity as it rotates on to the disk. Increased chance of additional >M5 flaring over the next 24-48 hours. The position of NOAA 13182 on 6-Jan-2023 at 04:30 UT is: S17E69, ( -872", -264" ) See http://www.SolarMonitor.org for images and http://solar.physics.montana.edu/max_millennium/ops/observing.shtml for a description of the current Max Millennium Observing Plan.
