Dear Collaborators, Solar activity is at a moderate level. Target region NOAA 13229 grew slightly since the last message and was reclassified as a beta-delta/E-type sunspot group. This region has produced four C-class flares in the period, the largest being a C5.5 flare on 20-Feb-2023 at 17:37 UT. A new spot region is in the process of rotating over the North East limb and has already produced four C-class flares and the largest magnitude flare of the period - a foot-point occulted M4.4 on 20-Feb-2023 at 14:47 UT (therefore of actually larger peak magnitude). The MM#003 Major Flare Watch will remain in effect, but the target switches to this currently unnumbered region at the North East limb. More C-class activity is expected over the next 24 hours, with a good chance for M-class flares. The approximate position of this region on 20-Feb-2023 at 19:00 UT is: N26E90 , ( -871", 422" ) See http://www.SolarMonitor.org for images and http://solar.physics.montana.edu/max_millennium/ops/observing.shtml for a description of the current Max Millennium Observing Plan. Regards, Shaun Bloomfield (Northumbria University) |
