Dear Collaborators, Solar activity has slightly diminished since the last message. Yesterday's target region NOAA 13539 was flare quiet, which has been downgraded from a beta-gamma to a beta configuration. NOAA 13538 in the northwest quadrant was the most flare-productive region on the visible disk with ten C-class flares, including the largest magnitude flare in the period - a C5.7 at 15:42 UT yesterday. The target region will switch to NOAA 13538 due to its past flaring history. Additional C-class flares are expected in the next 24 hours, with a slight chance for an isolated low M-class flare. The position of NOAA 13538 on 9-Jan-2024 at 08:30 UT is: N25W59, (759",442") See http://www.SolarMonitor.org for images and http://solar.physics.montana.edu/max_millennium/ops/observing.shtml for a description of the current Max Millennium Observing Plan. Regards, De-Chao Song (Purple Mountain Observatory) |
