Dear Collaborators, Solar activity has increased to a moderate level since the last message. The largest event in the period was an M1.9 flare at 23:18 UT yesterday attributed to the target region NOAA 13538, although a flare from NOAA 13541 (S23W00, beta-gamma/E-type) also contributed to the soft X-ray flux. 13538 produced another two ~M1 flares just now and is now beyond the northwest limb with high-lying loops. It shall remain as the target region for an additional 24 hours. Please note that a southeast limb region (unnumbered yet, S20E88) also produced an ~M1 flare in the period. More C-class flares are expected, with a good chance of additional low M-class flares in the next 24 hours. The position of NOAA 13538 on 11-Jan-2024 at 12:30 UT is: N20W88, (915",334") See http://www.SolarMonitor.org for images and http://solar.physics.montana.edu/max_millennium/ops/observing.shtml for a description of the current Max Millennium Observing Plan. Regards, De-Chao Song (Purple Mountain Observatory) |
